How to conquer Fear and Self-Doubt

I keep hearing from the Young Adults that I am personally coaching that one of the hardest parts of getting started on their journey toward their Million-Dollar Goal is the fear and self-doubt that bubbles up so strongly in the beginning. They ask me where it comes from, and how to best deal with it. It freaks them out a little.

Let me share something with you: your subconscious mind is programmed for one thing. You know what that is? Your survival. And when you start down a new path and try something new, like developing a whole new mindset associated with your being a Millionaire, red flags go up in your subconscious mind. WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!! DANGER AHEAD!!! UNCHARTED TERRITORY!!! BE SAFE!!! SAFER TO GO BACK TO FAMILIAR TERRITORY WHERE YOU’RE NOT IN DANGER!!!

If you understand that this is a normal response from your subconscious mind, generating that uncomfortable feeling in you that something just isn’t right when you start thinking about being a Millionaire, then you are prepared and equipped to overcome those early negative feelings and replace them with more constructive and beneficial ones.

This is the reason we write out our 3×5 card as a ticket to our First Million Dollars. (See Blog #3, How long will it take me to become a Millionaire?) Once you write out that card, put your goal in big, bold numbers, and give your Million-Dollar target a definite date by which you will achieve it, you are reprogramming your mind and, by association, your subconscious mind, to start being comfortable with your new Millionaire mindset, your goal and your objective.
It’s a process, a work in progress, if you will. Going from the uncomfortable feelings generated by such thoughts as “I can’t do this, who am I to think I can do this, I know this is done by others, but I’m not one of the lucky ones, am I really smart enough to do this?” to the unshakable belief that “Yes, I can do this, yes, I can make this happen, yes, this is not only possible for me, it’s a sure bet, it’s inevitable,” takes about 4 to 6 weeks. Not a very long time in anyone’s life.

You accomplish this remarkable change in your way of thinking by reading to yourself every day that Million-Dollar ticket you wrote out, preferably first thing in the morning and last thing at night, in front of a mirror looking yourself straight in the eye. By doing this, you are telling your subconscious mind, in no uncertain terms, that you’re the boss, this is what you want, and it had better start working to bring to you all that you need to make your Million-Dollar Goal a reality.

Until next time.
